The Curriculum at Seacroft Grange is under review. We already believe that our 84 Experience Promise and existing curriculum provide a broad and balanced curriculum but want to make sure it's 100% GOLD standard. We're going to be spending time with our staff and children to make sure our curriculum offer is absolutely right. Watch this space!

Curriculum Overview Statement 2018 - 2019

A common set of values underpins SGPS' GOLD curriculum to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and the challenges of the rapidly changing world we live and work in. While preparing our children academically for the next phase, through our curriculum, we aim to raise their aspirations through our 84 experience promise (a guarantee of one class and one whole-school experience for every half term they are at school from Reception to Year 6):

4. Develop their understanding

Click here to find our curriculum map. We want our curriculum to be fluid and so have not asked our teachers to plan too far in advance but rather develop their curriculum to the needs and interests of the children in their class.

We want our parents and carers to support learning at home.

Each half-term your child is sent home with a newsletter which tells you how you can support your children in all of their learning (the learning that's in the diagram below). Click here to find out what your child is learning at the moment and ideas to help you to help them.

Our topic/book based curriculum is carefully designed to ignite the children’s imaginations and make learning vivid and real for them. Strong, cross curricular links strengthen the relevance of learning and provide opportunities for the children to apply their knowledge and skills in a range of meaningful contexts. The flexibility within the national curriculum guidelines allows us to organise learning into topics where the programmes of study (PoS) are covered at different depths according to the different stages of development of the children. A two year rolling cycle of topics encourages team work between classes and makes learning exciting, engaging and fun.

While incorporating a progression in the acquisition of skills and knowledge, the curriculum provides frequent opportunities for the children to reinforce and apply their learning, therefore increasing understanding. Topics weeks and themed weeks also provide frequent opportunities for the children to apply their Maths and Literacy skills in meaningful real life contexts.

Each topic is enriched by the use of new technologies, visits, visitors and first hand experiences to aid understanding (WOW). The children are involved at the planning stage as we value their ideas and contributions and want them to be inquisitive and passionate about their learning. Every child is unique and different approaches are used to explore and deliver topics to ensure all our children are challenged and develop the skills they need to be confident and successful lifelong learners.

Seacroft Grange Primary School uses Letters and Sounds as a programme for teaching Synthetic Phonics.
